After graduating from Newcastle University with BSC(Hons) in Civil Engineering having taken the Structures final option, Daniel Atkinson successfully practised as an Engineer for some 18 years with a number of companies specialising in the management of Major Projects, including

He became a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers

After also becoming a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, he changed career by becoming head of a contracts department at Rendel Palmer & Tritton for 2 years.

Daniel Atkinson commenced his career in dispute resolution with James R Knowles Limited where he was employed for 17 years. In that time he became a Director and was responsible for creating the Engineering Division and then the separate company Knowles Law Limited in which he was a shareholder. Both ventures were highly successful in providing specialist services of both UK and international dispute resolution by dually qualified professionals.  Using his experience as a practising engineer he  developed  advanced diagnostic techniques in sectors including building works, heavy engineering, petrochemical and pharmaceutical works.

Daniel Atkinson graduated with his law degree after three years study whilst at the same time managing major international disputes. He then studied and was called to the Bar as a non-practising barrister in 1994.

Daniel Atkinson established Daniel Atkinson Limited in 2000 with the objective of increasing knowledge of construction and commercial law through the medium of the internet and promoting alternative dispute resolution.
